Does he want something more than time and space???

I've been seeing my bf for 4mths. He's a farmer and I'm a nurse and we live 150miles away from each other. Things have been great up until recently. He's been distant not answering his phone when before he would always be around to text. I'm a single mom of a 4yr old and he respects that he has not met her yet. I went out to see him last night and 50miles away he told me that I should go out with my friends instead and that he doesn't want to waste my time. I went out there anyways and asked him what was wrong his answer to everything was "i don't know". He states he still loves me but wants space and time to think. We agreed to stay together for the next month or two during his busy season and then sit down and talk when he got done in the fields. I'm weary that he'll call or text me one day and say it's over he told me he wouldn't. He wants space and time that's fine with me. What do I do? Not talk to him wait for him to call me or wait a week and email or call him?
