How to cite a PDF file in MLA format?

My teacher said that if I had a PDF file from the internet, i could cite it as a hard copy, not as a website. However, the MLA citation for a hard copy or book required volume numbers, edition, publication city etc, and i dnt have any of tht information for my PDF file. Is there another way to cite PDF files?
