Why do people think they have seen an apparition of "The Virgin Mary" when NO ONE HAS ANY IDEA WHAT SHE LOOKED?

LIKE. There were no contemporary paintings of the 'mother of jesus' and when someone says they have seen 'the virgin mary' appear to them and then speak in French or Spanish, or English, I have problems with projectile laughter.
